ZZK Mixtape Vol 5 - Tremor
The Tremor mixtape is sonic adventure with the artist weaving various formats of folklorico together from traditional artists like Domingo Cura and José Larralde to new names on the Argentine scene like Semilla and Mariana Baraj.

Breaking out from traditional forms, Tremor remixes, edits, and mashes up music of the Mapuche, Peruvian huaynos, carnaval sounds, chacareras, malambos, and more. Blending traditional andean sounds with hip hop, dubstep, or IDM, the artist takes on whatever pours out of hist vast musical library, where Leonardo Martinelli becomes Tremor, giving generously from his vault of digital Folklorica.

The artists that appear on the mixtape give a feel for Tremor’s varied influences, like Domingo Cura, Elpidio Herrera and Los Jaivas, there are friends from the tour circuit like King Coya, Axel Krygier, Daleduro, El Remolón, and Villa Diamante who reinforce the aesthetic with different takes on their own particular genre of choice. There’s a momentum that gathers with the inclusion of artists who reformat traditions, making them present tense and palpable on the dancefloor. There’s a common denominator shared; deconstructing musical identity is shared by like-minded artists on the record, acting out against the established sound but paying homage to in a unique way – maintaining the spirit of cumbia and folklorico sounds while taking them into the millenium. Micaela Chauque, Mariana Baraj, Nortec Collective, Semilla, Radiokijada, Chancha Vía Circuito and Beatriz Pichimalén are Tremor peers whose respective sounds act as points of reference as well as inspiration.

Coloring outside the paradigm lines, Tremor breathes new life into traditional folklorico, bringing his own point of view into the rich rythms of the region, where technology punctuates the boom of the bombo legüero drum, chops up the charango and splices tunes with samples of daily life at home in South America.

Leonardo humbly prefers to classify his compositions as outside the genre of folkórico, which makes sense, given the etiquette involved with negotiating the complex territory of the diverse traditions he’s absorbed. He leaves genre and prejudice aside and approaches the songs as simple, sonic storytelling; travelling through the rich, varied landscape of Argentine culture.
